Though much has changed over the years, it is from my youth that I draw upon the lessons taught to me by my mother and father and others from the special hometown that even today harkens me back to a simpler time, a time of innocence, and an era much different than today. Though I have transformed over the years, the principles of faith have remained constant and define who I am while enabling me to better myself. And, with the New Year and intended resolutions, I pledge to be a better man for those I love, those I lead, and those I serve and serve with.
Yet, who really is the man who writes these words; perhaps easily put to paper, but what of true intent? Provided here are a few lines to offer the reader a narrative of who I am. I am imperfect, I am damaged, and I am a sinner. Realizing my faults, I acknowledge my sins. I am not a pious man but a man whose faith guides me along my life’s journey. I have learned tolerance and acceptance of those whose behavior and beliefs may contradict my own. I believe we are all created equally in the image of our maker. It is free will and its exercise that determines our path. Striving to be a better man, I tolerate and accept those whose choices differ from mine. There has been much animosity voiced in the media of late, citing religious beliefs, the right of free speech, the lack of civility, and a good measure of intolerance. Needed is a voice of reason advocation inclusion rather than ridicule. For instance, accepting differences with us all, yet not condoning behaviors contrary to one’s faith, it would be far better to offer kindness than scorn.
During this holiday season and in the coming year, I will offer my best to those I love and to those I serve. I believe in mercy and grace and the power of faith. I will inevitably falter and disappoint myself and perhaps those I care for. So then, What am I gifting or presenting? Neither token nor trinket; I will, however, present a limitless heart for the New Year. In prayer, I wish the reader and their loved ones Many Blessings!
